Roger Federer should have been exhausted. After winning the ATP Masters 1000 event in Indian Wells, the 18-time Grand Slam champion spent over five hours on court heading into the Miami Open final against Rafael Nadal, who had been on court for less than three hours. Perhaps Federer was lucky to make it to the championship match at all, surviving two final set tiebreakers against Tomas Berdych and Nick Kyrgios, respectively.

But the Swiss left no doubt that he deserved to win the title, beating the fifth-seeded Nadal for the third time this year and fourth time in a row, 6-3, 6-4, to continue his torrid start to 2017.

Just a few months ago, Federer was the 17th-seeded player at the Australian Open. Now, he looks as sharp as ever. The Swiss may be 35 years old, but he certainly doesn’t look it on the court.

Federer is hitting his backhand better than ever, and he used it along with his always-sharp forehand to win four sets in a row against Nadal for the first time ever, making it five with the straight sets victory.

“The dream continues,” Federer told the crowd in Miami after the match. “What a start to the year, I can’t believe it.”

If you haven’t jumped back on the Federer train yet (even Kevin Anderson’s wife Kelsey is doing it), you probably should — Federer is rolling away from the rest of the world, and perhaps back toward the top of the rankings once again.
