Not long now—if you're a patient person, that is.

The hotly anticipated Battle of the Sexes big-screen treatment featuring Best Actress winner Emma Stone and Oscar nominee Steve Carell as Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs, respectively, has an official release date (and its own Twitter handle). September 22 can't come soon enough for many cinema-meets-sport fans.

Suffice to say, BJK herself is psyched.

The A-list film will tell the obvious story of the 1973 exhibition encounter between King, then near the height of her powers as an active WTA Tour star, and Riggs, a retired pro in his 50s who sometimes doubled as a sexist semi-villain. Carell will have the honors this time out, and Stone will hopefully show off tennis skills at least as good as her not-exactly-sterling-yet-winning song-and-dance routines from La La Land. (Ah, who cares? All that matters is that Roger Federer didn't like the ending.)

Thus just one week after the US Open ends, expect to find yourself in a different player's box, rooting on "she-ro" King as she takes on Riggs. Margaret Court couldn't stop him in a previous exhibition match, said she didn't prepare for the match earnestly enough. While we know how this one turns out, it'll be something like tennis' own Titanic: You won't be able to look away, and you sure can't stop what's coming.

The film also stars tennis player and superfan Elisabeth Shue, Alan Cumming, Sarah Silverman, Bill Pullman, Fred Armisen and many more.
