There was a lot on the line on Thursday for Pablo Cuevas and Pablo Carreno Busta. The two emerged from the Andy Murray-less section of the Indian Wells draw to earn a shot at a first-career ATP Masters 1000 semifinal appearance.

Spain's Carreno Busta would slip away with the victory, 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (4), but Cuevas left everything he had on the court, quite literally.

Cuevas should still be pleased with his first ATP Masters quarterfinal appearance, coming just after winning his sixth title in Sao Paulo earlier this month.

Carreno Busta, six years Cuevas' junior at 25, reversed his loss to Cuevas in the Sao Paulo semifinals. With his win on Thursday, he's guaranteed to crack the Top 20 for the first time.
