It looked like Nick Kyrgios needed a little last-minute fuel after his Indian Wells fourth-round encounter with Novak Djokovic. Just after arriving on court for doubles, the Australian cheekily grabbed a bite (of what appears to be fries) from a nearby spectator (who turns out to be his father, Giorgos).

Whatever the world No. 16 has been doing to get the edge is working because Kyrgios took out the defending champion, 6-4, 7-6 (3) to reach his first quarterfinal in the desert.

Later in the day, Kyrgios teamed up with veteran Nenad Zimonjic to fall 6-1, 6-3 against Lukas Kubot and Marcelo Melo.

Before this year, Kyrgios had actually never gone farther than the second round in singles at the BNP Paribas Open in his two previous appearances.

It's actually the second time in three weeks that the 21-year-old has ousted Djokovic, having also beaten him in Acapulco. His win on Wednesday ended the Serb's 19-match winning streak in Indian Wells.

Kyrgios will try to reach his second career ATP Masters 1000 semifinals when he takes on Roger Federer on Friday. They've played just once before with Kyrgios getting the win in Madrid back in 2015.
