A couple of major WTA stars were missing at the start of Indian Wells (namely last year's finalists Victoria Azarenka and Serena Williams), but none have been missed quite as much as Petra Kvitova. The Czech suffered severe tendon and nerve injuries to her left hand and fingers in December during a home robbery.

The BNP Paribas Open put up a giant mural of Kvitova on the grounds, and had fans and players alike sign the board. Poster space has filled up quickly as the tournament has worn on.

The two-time Wimbledon champion just celebrated her 27th birthday, and was definitely feeling the love.

Kvitova has been rehabbing and recovering in the Canary Islands.

She's tentatively expected to return to the tour in the summer, but there haven't been many updates on her status.
