It's well known that the freshly 23-years-young Eugenie Bouchard recently starred in the annual Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue. What's more, fellow tennis stars Serena Williams and Caroline Wozniacki also appeared.

What's perhaps less universally recognized is how Bouchard, compared to her peers, receives a massive amount of flak for her off-court comings and goings. "I've gotten that over the last couple of years I've done a photo shoot anywhere," she recently told CBS Sports. "It's like, 'Oh god, get back on the tennis court. What are you doing? Go practice.'"

Bouchard is but one, although an incredibly successful one, of at least dozens of prominent WTA players who face not high-minded, thoughtful critiques on social media but rather ill-intended, mean-spirited bluster. Colleagues such as Nicole Gibbs, Madison Keys and others have spoken out in the past year about getting the same.

"I practiced for six hours today and I did this [a photo shoot] like two hours after," Bouchard continued in the CBS Sports interview. "I'm practicing for six hours [a day] all this week." She sounded a bit exasperated by the uninformed criticism, offering, "What are you talking about? Do you work 24 hours a day?"

Heightened scrutiny among tennis fans (read: naysayers, online gamblers) revolves around the fact that Bouchard bottled lightning in her 2014 WTA season, reaching the fourth round or better at all four majors, including semifinal appearances in Australian and French Opens and a Wimbledon title-match showing.

"You have to deal with that hate and not take it personally" is her go-to take on things today. She might have celebrated an early-20s birthday this weekend, but she has wised up to the ways of a world of detractors.

(Don't feel too bad for her, she got a warm birthday welcome in Acapulco).

In the case of Bouchard, and others, let's consider the truism that "Living well is the best revenge." With that in mind, she will always have her way with all that pesky hateration. Once again–advantage, Bouchard.
