In an unusually dish-y move, members of Serena Williams' camp have spoken out about her relationship with her betrothed, Alexis Ohanian. Granted, their statements, and the context provided around them, arrived in the New York Post, so take them with a grain—a boulder?—of salt.

Even so, the words of a couple heavyweights in the Williams orbit, presented in quotation marks, can hardly be denied.

From mother Oracene Price: "I think it is the happiest she’s been. She’s pretty tough on herself and she’s such a competitor, sometimes I don’t think she’ll ever be satisfied. ... He’s good for her because she’s one of these people with a type-A personality, and he’s more calm and serene."

Via Robbye Poole, Serena's hitting partner: "I think they’re a great match. Alexis is very supportive, caring, super laid-back. So he knows how to deal with the times when she’s under a lot of stress. They balance each other well.”

Again from Price, this time speaking of Serena's previous paramours: "They came and they went. It’s difficult for women in her position to find someone that really cares for them."

As to whether Serena will one day have children, per—who else?—Price: "“That’s why she has so many dogs."

Serena's mother, hardly mum on these matters, also told the Post of a particular online-shopping success Ohanian staged on Serena's behalf: "There was this shirt [Serena] liked but couldn’t find it, a black-and-red check shirt. And he went online and found it for her. To me, that’s romantic because you’re listening to the person you’re caring about say something, and you’re doing something about it."

So what brand was it? (Decidedly not QVC, we assume.) The world may never know.

What's more, Serena gushed on Snapchat about her Valentine's Day gift from Ohanian, a Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) Classic Mini, a video-game console hailing from 1983—the year Ohanian was born, two years on the heels of his lady love.

Folks, this quirky tandem might just be built to last.
