On Sunday, Kristina Mladenovic snagged her first WTA title in St. Petersburg by beating Yulia Putintseva in an epic showdown. Mladenovic needed over two-and-a-half hours and five match points to seal the deal, 6-2, 6-7 (3), 6-4.

In her victory speech, the 23-year-old congratulated her opponent: "Girl, you had an amazing week and today you gave me a hard time on the court. You're such a big fighter... I really enjoyed sharing the court with you."

Putintseva knocked out both Svetlana Kuznetsova and Dominka Cibulkova, while Mladenovic was no slouch herself, upsetting Australian Open finalist Venus Williams and Roberta Vinci.

Mladenovic had previously lost in three WTA finals.
