Kayla Day is stirring up some chatter as the next rising American youngster as she transitions from running the junior world to competing on the pro tour.

The Santa Barbara native has been playing tennis since she was seven years old, and now at just 17, she has turned pro, signing with Octagon.

Day made her Grand Slam debut at the US Open last year, winning her first match with some help from a Madison Brengle's mid-match retirement. The following week, the teenager won the junior US Open title, and reached the final in doubles, to become the No. 1 junior in the world.

The world No. 194 took her talents to the ITF Pro Circuit next, winning the $50,000 in Macon and reaching the semifinal in Scottsdale to secure the Australian Open Wildcard Challenge.

Melbourne will the lefty's first Grand Slam as a pro, and she has been training hard on and off the court to prepare.
