Players were either rewarded with a resounding crash or had their hopes dashed in a little bit of off-court fun at the ATP World Tour Finals in London.

Around half of the singles and doubles fields took a shot at the Gong Challenge, where they had to do a little target practice into the stands with racquet, ball and instrument. While most of the time it seems like the pros can hit a dime anywhere on the court, the video shows that’s far from the case.

Some of the attempts were pretty rough (looking at you, Raven Klaasen).

Representing the singles side, Andy Murray, David Goffin and Dominic Thiem hit nothing but air and seats. Murray, predictably, complained of ongoing commentary while he was hitting, while Goffin was gently mocked for making the Davis Cup final but not hitting a gong. Even Greg Rusedski was brought into bring the success rate up.

The doubles players definitely did better with Ivan Dodig, Pierre-Hugues Herbert, Bruno Soares and John Peers nailing the challenge. Peers’ partner, Henri Kontinen, came up empty, but he gets a pass as he was part of the point of the tournament so far.

Soares and his partner Jamie Murray just clinched the year-end No. 1 doubles ranking of the year (after a 3-0 record in round-robin action this week). Jamie's brother Andy is still on the chase to do the same in singles.
