On November 5, 1984, McEnroe threw one of his most famous fits during the Stockholm semifinals against local Anders Jarryd.

“No mistakes so far in this match, right?” McEnroe asks chair umpire Dr. Leif Ake Nilsson. “You haven’t overruled anything. No mistakes whatsoever…”

“Answer my question. The question, jerk!”

McEnroe is famous for his incredible temper, but he called this incident his most embarrassing moment. It happened when he was No. 1 in the world in a year that saw him win both Wimbledon and the US Open.

His fit in Stockholm didn't stop with the vocal barrage directed toward Nilsson. After losing his service game, McEnroe smashed a row of full cups with his racquet. He sat back down, and then took another swing at the cups, earning himself a game penalty.

“They were real glasses, not paper cups,” Nilsson said.

The American looked fully intent on forfeiting the match, but held it together to win in three sets, before beating beat Mats Wilander in the final.

The “Answer my question" tirade has lived on in infamy, even becoming a Swedish website. It may only come second to McEnroe's most famous “You cannot be serious!” outburst, which, fittingly, became the title of his book.
