WTA announces winners of the year in Singapore

The WTA Finals in Singapore Awards Gala took place on Friday with a slew of nominations being handed out.

Here’s the full winner’s list:

The teenager reached the third round of every major she played this year, improving her ranking to No. 40. The nominees included Louisa Chirico, Viktorija Golubic and Jelena Ostapenko.

The French duo won four titles this season (including Roland Garros) and reached the US Open final. The nominees included Sania Mirz and Martina Hingis, Elena Vesnina and Ekaterina Makarova and Lucie Safarova and Bethanie Mattek-Sands.

The Brit rose from the 40's to the Top 10 partially thanks to her first Grand Slam semifinal in Australia. The nominees included Monica Puig, Kiki Bertens and Laura Siegmund.

Coming back from injuries, the Slovak won three titles in 2016. The nominees included Shelby Rogers, Vania King, Elena Vesnina and Anastasija Sevastova.

Even Serena Williams agreed that the German earned the nod after two majors and a silver medal. The nominees included Williams, Garbine Muguruza, Karolina Pliskova and Simona Halep.
