Kerber's coach reveals hairy superstition

Torben Beltz admits to being more superstitious than the world No

In a feature for CNN's Open Court titled "View from the Top" new No. 1 Angelique Kerber strolls Central park in Manhattan with none other than Pat Cash.

The duo chat a variety of topics, including her coach Torben Beltz. Kerber had worked with Beltz on and off throughout her career, and rehired him again just last year. Now fans get to learn a little more about Kerber's most important team member.

"I’m more superstitious than her maybe because when she’s winning I’m not shaving until she loses or the tournament is over," Beltz said.

That explains his growing beard during the US Open fortnight.

The two-time Grand Slam champion next appeared in Wuhan, falling to Petra Kvitova in a marathon third-round match. Though Beltz's beard is short for now, there's no doubt he'll be putting the razor down again in the near future.
