McEnroe not excited about Borg vs. McEnroe film

The first pictures of Shia LaBeouf playing a young John McEnroe have only just surfaced, but the upcoming film, titled Borg vs. McEnroe, already has its biggest critic.

“I don’t know if they are planning on doing the whole movie without input or any type of arrangement from me or Björn,” McEnroe said in the *Guardian*. “I haven’t seen anything, and they’ve already started the movie.”

You cannot be serious! (Get it...?)

The film hones in on the 1980 Wimbledon final, which Borg won 8-6 in the fifth set in what was their first-ever major final showdown. McEnroe would win the rematch the following year.

Their Fire vs. Ice rivalry is easily on of the biggest story lines in the sport, with the two finishing with a tied 7-7 career head-to-head matches. The volatile American would win seven majors during his career, while the calm Swede won 11.

"It doesn’t seem like they are all that interested in talking with me…” McEnroe said about the film. “It could be entertaining. If it’s good, it’d be cool. Let’s hope.”

The 57-year-old did say that LaBeof is supposedly crazy “so maybe that works,” but he expressed concerns over whether the two lead actors can even play tennis.

Swedish actor Sverrir Gudnason will play Borg. The film, directed by Janus Metz Pedersen, is set to release in 2017.

McEnroe, becoming more and more famous for his harsh criticism commentating for ESPN, had similarily negative words for tennis motion pictures in general.

“I’ve never seen a good tennis movie,” he said. “They all were terrible.”
