NEW YORK — Hair goals, indeed. There's a new team in town, and while they may be a bit of an odd pair given the 11 year age difference, CoCo Vandeweghe and Martina Hingis are finding their rhythm at the US Open.

The duo is into the quarterfinals in just their second tournament together. Defending doubles US Open champion Hingis split with Sania Mirza in Montreal, and cold-called Vandeweghe as her first choice for a new comrade in arms.

Vandeweghe, honored to get the invite, is fitting in just fine alongside the four-time US Open champion (one singles, two doubles and one mixed).

"It’s been fun," Vandeweghe said. "It's a dream come true to play with an amazing Hall of Fame player."

Though only partnered together for a few weeks, they've already put two awkward encounters behind them, facing Mirza (and Barbora Strycova) in the Cincinnati final and then playing each other in mixed doubles in the second round. Vandeweghe and Rajeev Ram squeaked out a win over defending champions Hingis and Leander Paes 13-11 in the deciding super tiebreaker.

"We are professionals. You take it," Hingis said. "You try your best  on the court, but off the court it's a different story."

As Vandeweghe has shared, the new partners get along well on and off the court, and on social media.

On Wednesday, they'll face Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova in the quarterfinals.

"She made semifinals last year," Hingis said of Vandeweghe. "So we have to at least make semifinals this year."
