American Eric Butorac has retired after playing his last match at the US Open. Since turning pro in 2003 after a Division III college career, Butorac has won 18 ATP titles and reached a career-high doubles ranking of No. 17. He’s also been President of the ATP Player Council for many years.

“As an American to finish at the US Open is perfect,” the 35-year-old said.

Teamed up with Scott Lipsky for his final tournament, Butorac lost to Rajeev Ram and Raven Klassen in the first round. He also reached the second round of the mixed event with Timea Babos.

Butorac was one match away from becoming a Grand Slam champion in 2014, but lost in the Australian Open final (partnered with Klaasen).

Next up for Butorac, he turns his attention to his growing family (he has two young sons with wife Maggie Suydam). He has also signed on to be the USTA Director of Professional Tennis Operations and player relations starting in October.
