Serena Williams has been a lot of things. She's gone a lot of places and played a lot of roles. "Compton." "Outsider." "Melbourne." "Injured." Struggling." "No. 169." "No. 1." In a few fleeting words, Nike tells you all about it in a new minute-long clip dubbed "Unlimited Greatness."

Therein, as has been widely reported by now, the brand giant salutes one of the best-performing stars in its sponsored stable as "the greatest female athlete ever," then removes the gender-based descriptor. That's right: Greatest. Athlete. Ever.

"From Compton’s courts to the world stage. This is the story of the greatest athlete ever." That mention, in passing but powerful, might even be an allusion to a statement Serena gave at Wimbledon earlier this summer, when confronted with the prompt, "There's talk of you going down as one of the greatest female athletes ever."

Serena Williams continues to pick her spots. Serena Williams continues to place her shots. Serena Williams simply continues.
