Edmund burned by
Jamie Murray after
upsetting Gasquet

NEW YORK — On Monday, Kyle Edmund stunned 13th seed Richard Gasquet in the first round of the US Open. The 21-year-old got the biggest win of his career handily, 6-2, 6-2, 6-3.

"Yeah, on ranking I think, yeah, it's probably my best win. And the way I went about it, the way I played, a lot of things went well..." he said. "Very encouraging the way I played, the way I handled myself, dealt with situations. I thought I was smart with the way I played when I needed to be in certain situations."

While his many British fans raved over his performance, his compatriot and Davis Cup teammate took the opportunity to backhandedly congratulate him.

Edmund had a retort, or explanation, soon after completing his US Open main-draw debut (fast-forward to the 3:10 mark):

"I don’t mind it. Jamie’s a really nice guy," Edmund says in the clip. "He’s good to have around. He’s definitely good fun. It's harmless really so it's OK."

The world No. 84 next faces 20-year-old American wildcard Ernesto Escobedo.
