Steve Johnson won an all-American quarterfinal against John Isner at the Citi Open 7-6 (7), 7-6 (15) on Friday. Isner had reached the final in Washington three times, including last year when he beat Johnson in the semifinals. The 25th-ranked Johnson (a career-best for him) is looking to win his second title of 2016 after winning his maiden crown in Nottingham earlier this summer.

Also in D.C., top seed and 2011 champion Sam Stosur was taken out by wildcard Jessica Pegula. Pegula will play another American in the semifinal after Lauren Davis beat Camila Giorgi 6-4, 6-4. Neither Pegula nor Davis have ever played a WTA final, but one of them will get that honor on Sunday.
