The 22-year-old just won his first grass-court title in Stuttgart last week, and moved into the quarterfinals in Halle after a 6-4, 6-1 win over Teymur Gabashvili. Milos Raonic also advanced with a 7-5, 7-6 (6) win over Jiri Vesely, and Bernard Tomic fought back to over come Fernando Verdasco, 6-7 (2), 6-4, 6-4. Despite having 10 match points, John Isner lost to Gilles Muller, 3-7, 7-6 (16), 7-6 (7).

Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko upset No. 5 seed Petra Kvitova in Birmingham, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. The 19-year-old actually beat Kvitova earlier this year in Doha. She faces Madison Keys in the quarterfinals. Keys beat Tamira Paszek, 6-1, 6-3 to advance, and needs just two more wins to crack the Top 10.

In Mallorca, Ana Ivanovic breezed into the quarterfinals with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Sara Sorribes Tormo, while Carolina Garcia also moved on with a 6-4, 7-6 (8) win over Anna-Lena Friedsam.
