Maria Sharapova's Olympic dreams are somehow still alive, despite still being under a provisional suspension by the International Tennis Federation for testing positive for meldonium during the Australian Open.

"We will include Sharapova in the team, which we need to announce by June 6," Shamil Tarpishchev, an International Olympic Committee member and the president of the Russian Tennis Federation, told the R-Sport News Agency. "Whether she competes or not should be decided by the end of the first week of Roland Garros."

Sharapova is on the preliminary squad list, ''but if she isn't able to compete, then the next-highest player on the ranking list will go into the team," Tarpishchev said.

Right now, the Rio team includes Svetlana Kuznetsova, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Daria Kasatkina, with Ekaterina Makarova next in if Sharapova cannot participate.
