In the Istanbul final on Sunday things started off pretty well for Grigor Dimitrov. Playing against No. 87-ranked Diego Schwartzman, Dimitrov went up a set and 5-2, appearing well on his way to winning his fourth ATP title. Instead, the world No. 29 lost control of the match, and his mind (he was also hindered by cramps).

The Bulgarian repeatedly smashed his racquets during the 6-7 (5), 7-6 (4), 6-0 loss, which ended abruptly with a game penalty (awarded after he destroyed his third racquet). His Wilson frames never stood a chance:

One demolition simply wasn’t enough on this very rough day in the office:

Dimitrov even kept smashing frames after the match:

And then gave an apology in his very awkward on-court speech:

Schwartzman was playing in his first-ever ATP final. Dimitrov may not be in the Top 10 anymore in the ATP rankings, but he’s now No. 1 in racquet destruction.
